I didn't actually set out to write something where Jennifer and Rodney were happy and genuinely in love, but then I didn't have an outline for this, and it just happened, but I'm inordinately pleased that it has no villains, not even the IOA or the SGC.
In many ways, I feel like she didn't give up on Rodney by having another man's child
Emphatically, yes. It wasn't about giving up on Rodney, it was about having a child while she was young and healthy enough to be a good and happy parent. She knew Rodney wouldn't want her to go on living a miserable limbo of a life; she didn't give up, but unlike John and Rodney, she didn't have a time frame that she could look at say, he'll be back on X day. For all she knew they might not show up for a hundred years or might have been slung a thousand years into the past.
