John and Kim, Rodney and Jennifer... each of them loves the other. It's real love, maybe not Valentine hearts and flowers 'destined' love, but it is very much love by my definition - each of them wants the other to be happy. They want this more than they want to be 'the one'. They're willing to let go and they're willing to stay, either, which ever is the thing that will be best for them. In Jennifer's case, she knows Rodney wouldn't want her to be unhappy over never having children and being lonely; she knows he'll be a little hurt when he learns she's moved on, but also that he has support and will recover. She still loves him, but it's... a love in the past, not of the now.

Eh, I do a better job writing it than writing about it. I'm just thrilled other people have liked the story.
