Well, I would have considered it a happy ending, as long as they were happy with their SOs and still friends with each other.

I agree with you that Kim and Jennifer didn't "cheat"--just moved on, because for all they knew, their guys were dead, and they might never have gotten word one way or the other. You did a nice job of depicting them as honorable adults too, moving on with their lives, but not without thought to what their loved ones would have wanted.

My reference to "happy ending" was to literal Happiness--the fact that nobody was dead at the end, the world didn't (literally or figuratively) end, and nobody was miserable. (Because face it, Oh Shining One, we love you, and love your fic, but you give No Guarantees of one of those dire things not happening to your characters.) You crumpled the guys pretty badly, but you didn't break them--they didn't lose faith in each other or in their loved ones and they got to come home again, in the truest sense of the word "home" (at least as far as SGA fans define "home": IOW, Atlantis).

Did I mention how much I liked the scenes with the reunion of John & Rodney with their Team (and the Athosians & Atlantis)? In particular, the characterization of Torren as a snotty teen was particularly satisfying, as was the image of Zelenka being willing to sacrifice a few minions to the backwash of the 'Gate if it would bring Rodney back....
